I think we should start keeping track of Alocs that are scrapped.

I'll start:

Grafton & Upton S4 #1001

Scrapped today by the G&U's new owners.

Some pics before scrapping here:

A&M 4224 and 4242- both of which are being parted out.
x-BRC 604 may also be a parts unit on the A&M.

From the Alco Yahoo group:

Just received word tonight that the Chestnut Ridge Rwy. has scrapped their ALCO S-2 # 21. Built for New Jersey Zinc (Palmerton, PA). Scrap date is 4-21-2008.

Kermit Geary, JR(u)

I think this is the loco:

These 3 engines are Alco C424s.

From clutch at this forum:

I was just able to confirm:

Ex Western Pacific Alco's S1's, # 505 and 507.

S2's #557 and 560.

S4 #564.

All scrapped by the ST&E.

Im guessing that a few of the M636s in Cohocton on the LA&L will be scrapped and parted out. When i was there last time, a few units had "JUNK" spraypainted in the carbody, ethier forward of the radiator or on the radiator housing on the sides, so im presuming these units will be parted out and the remains scrapped to keep the other running units on the LA&L & WNY&P running. Only time will say.

I wonder if the railroad put that on them or did some "anti-Alco " person?

I believe the "junk" spraypaint labels came from their Susquehanna days..
and are merely someone's opinion of the units! ;)

"junk" spraypainted on them doesnt necessarily, and probably does not, have any offical meaning as to the fate or plans for these units..

I think its a bit premature to list them as "scrapped".

Yes, let's keep this thread to scrapped Alcos only.

i was only referencing them as to-be possibly, since the word i understand is that some of them have cracked blocks and freeze damage. Sorry for the quick assumption.
Cheers.

There are 2 C636's that have freeze damage and I understand they will be repaired at some point.
