The August Trains has a piece by Bill Stephens on page 8 reporting on his interview with the CEO and other CN officials about the new policy of operating trains on strict schedules, with a ripple effect that improves the whole operation. No mention is made of a similar program instituted by IC some 50 years ago, including having opposing trains swap crews en route to get both crews back to their home terminals the same day. I never heard the result, but just assumed that it sort of petered out under successive managements and ownerships.
