I live along the old C&O mainline west of Staunton, VA. Amtrak Cardinal comes thru here on Sunday, Wednesday, and Friday both eastbound and westbound. Today, not long after the east bound train passed around 3:45 pm a second west bound train went by. They were so close that they must have passed each other on the siding at North Mountain.
I wasn't listening to the radio so I didn't get to hear the train's identification. I have no idea why there would be a third Amtrak thru here. As far as I know that hasn't happened in the 14 years I've lived here. Did Amtrak start a new train thru this area? Are they re-routing one? I can't think what you would re-route thru Staunton and Clifton Forge. Maybe it's a special? Anybody know?
