Never. Then they would need to maintain it to that. Class 2 / 25 mph.

There are two combinations that would require them to do that - someone paying for the initial rebuild, and someone paying for the continued maintenance. Even then, highly unlikely. Pan Am Southern was rebuilt to timetable speed from Willows East to Mechanicville. Within two years it was back down to 25 with the usual 10s. That's with NS dumping cash in to keep it in shape. Fink Jr. has gone on record multiple times saying they are happy with a 25 MPH railroad.

And now Trains Magazine is reporting that Pan Am is for sale!

Interesting in that that’s beyond the current in service portion of the line at Old Town.

No portion of the line is "out of service". They're just not currently operating any revenue trains over the trackage between Keag and Old Town.

If they’re building a siding am assuming Pan Am is planning to serve them. How big a shipper are they supposed to be?

Yes, there was previously a spur there for a stud mill (one of several that used to be up that way). The old Howland Branch used to come off on the other side of the street as well.

That mill used to be a lot bigger. There was an actual saw mill and the whole 9 yards. I used to work there until the end of 2002. The saw mill portion burned down in 2003 i believe, only leaving the planner mill standing.

I wonder if they’ll use the new siding to transload product from their Dover Foxcroft location to rail?
