One other note:
Today, while driving adjacent to the rail line between Westville and Woodbury, I noticed that large monopole high tension electric towers were being erected along the right-of-way. Sorry, no pictures.
There are two impacts (both negative) that I see as a result.
1) Although I was not able to measure the distances involved, it appears to me that the concrete tower footings encroach on the right-of-way enough to eliminate the possibility for three tracks (i.e. two transit and one freight) given the FRA regulations regarding track seperation. If true, this has the potential for substantial impact on future DLRT operations, as it may be problematic to operate all freight movement during the available temporal separation window.
2) Although electrification is not a concern for DLRT, it appears that the monopoles will replace the existing PRR catenary type structures carrying the high tension wires. This will subject any future electrification project to additional costs when implemented.
