513 just got permission to work between MP48 (S. Paris) and MP71 (Bethel). Could possibly be a plow extra, if anyone is in the area.

No takers? Check tonights SEPO off Pan Am (Currently at Rigby). We will see how far the equipment gets tonight but should be there tomorrow.

What are the tracks that cross the STL & A in Jefferson, NH? They look to parallel Rte 2 and 115 south to Twin? I noticed them taking the long way home from Bethel on Sunday.

Sorry...never mind...it looks like what I saw was part of what is now the Presidential Rail Trail.

Yes, the rail trail crosses the SLR in Gorham. Using the old B and M bridge. No rail on it.

Now that the Rangeley Branch has been in service for three months, is it actually being used and if so, what for? I've seen nothing about MB Bark shipping, so am assuming they are inactive.

Anything going on with the SLR? I have seen nothing posted even with the wonderful weather we have been having. How have winter operations been going?

The ran a plow of some sort through South Paris on the 13th, whether it was a ballast regulator or a Jordan Spreader I am unsure, and I think they have done it once since. Road freights are 5 nights a week or more, with 2 local switchers every day accept Sunday in Auburn.

A couple of nice plow shots from up the line in Vermont

The line running east-west is the former B&M from Berlin to Whitefield, now as you say the Presidential Rail trail. The line running more or less north-south is the former Maine Central, Beecher Falls to Twin Mountain. Several sections of rail are gone on both routes.

Can anyone confirm the SLR went to Portland today? Any signs based on the snow cover?

Yes, SLR 512 with 3007 for power brought two loads, zero empties to East Deering for B&M Baked Beans yesterday. The train returned west with zero loads, one empty. I can share photos soon if you're interested. Enough snow had melted already, that the only signs a train passed were a mild de-rusting of the rails, and evidence of flanges having cut into dirt at grade crossings. Given the lack of snow, I was surprised to hear a report that SLR also ran a plow extra west from Lewiston Jct. yesterday morning. Apparently snow is worse west of Berlin.

From the Portland Press Herald:
Portland Press Herald wrote:Emergency crews responded to a crash between a train and a tractor-trailer truck hauling gravel on Hotel Road in Auburn on Monday.

The crash, reported at 3 p.m., forced the truck onto its side, spilling its load of gravel, and derailed the train, though the cars remained upright, police said.
. . .
Hotel Road was expected to be closed for six to seven hours while the train is reset and the debris removed, police said.
