I just got hired on as train crew for the Eugene hub. I am scheduled to start training in Portland this coming monday for 2 weeks. Job's are Brakeman, Switchman and some sort of wireless yard switcher. The brakeman jobs have both road and local open.
I have very little interest in yard work long term, obviously you get what you get with no seniority but I am wondering exactly how UP decides to split up the new hires for specific assignments. I would prefer road as I am not married.
What should I expect as a training progression in the next 6 months? At this point all I know is I will be in class room type training at Portland yard for the next 2 weeks. It is very unclear what happens after the classroom stuff is over.
I am active National Guard and wondering how this comes into play with UP.
Sorry for the disjointed rambling questions.
