Hi

On this thread:

http://www.railroad.net/forums/viewtopi ... 3&t=109494" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

there is lots of info on REA etc. Including some from Ken, who has also been helping me out.

In the yards mentioned (what does CLE stand for?) what type of locomotives and devices were used to move REA and other express cars and head end cars. Would like to locate photos of the express car being spotted etc by a loco of some sort. Maybe a some of the smaller locations they used something different to say a NYC switcher ?

I am after any photos showing movements but especially movement by something a little different.

NYC had a Magor drill loco. Built on a flat car! Found some drawings for this. Anything like this in express car depots?

On here there is a 'Pig" used to move unpowered locos around. http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/licity/licity.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Was anything like this used for express cars.

Were 'Model 20' locos or similar used for this work ?

Your comments would be most valuable. I will now do some research on the towns etc mentioned in the earlier thread.

In Boston in the 1960s time frame, NYC Railway Express switching at South Station was handled by the NYC's passenger switcher, which was normally a standard Alco S series unit.

Ditto for movements on the B&A at Springfield; used ALCO S units from psgr station to post office annex. This time of year, around holidays got a lot of UP & MP 85' bags used in mail storage; ever uncoupled one of them on curve there was no coupling back up again.
