It has been reported on one of the NS groups on Yahoo that NS 1386 (GP40, ex-NW same number) has been removed from the NS roster and changed to MEC 382. Presumably this would be NS' way of compensating PAR for MEC 375, which was wrecked in Momence, Ill. last year while in NS' employ.

So this should be the first engine painted in Pan Am. When is the engine going to be delivered?

Maybe, but not necessarily. Guilford had a history of buying used locos and running them for several months in a ratty patch job before repainting them.

I bet "U-Haul" could dig up some examples! :-D

The message about 1386/382 on Yahoo mentioned that the NS markings had been patched over with black paint. I suspect that's how it'll arrive when PAR takes delivery of it... although it is remotely possible that PAR could have NS send it to Juniata for a paint job first, but that would cost extra I'm sure.

Oh ya. Ratty paint in tha early months is Gillfids specialty :-D

I see nothing wrong in operating in a former owners paint job. If you make the patch job look good that is even better. A paint job can cost $5,000. Most of the locomotives on my HO layout run in the colors of their former owners.
I would ask Norfolk Southern for a SD40 or GP40-2.

I'd ask for an SD70

High nose GP40 for a high nose GP40. It's a fair trade. The 1386/382 should be nearly identical to the old 375, since they're both ex-NW.

This photo confirms that the 382 will be arriving in patched NS paint:

Can we work with the NS group guys to get an up-to-date location of the Locomotive as it travels through the NS system?

Good idea. Perhaps you could post something on the NS forum in that regard, and include a link to this thread.

What is the history of that engine? It looks a bit rough around the edges. Has it been in service, or just removed from a dead line?
