The LIRR and NJT are e both being nailed by signal problems in the tunnels under both rivers.

Wonder if that is a result of the "Sandy" salt water intrusions causing signal wiring to deteriorate ?

It'a combo deal,old cabling,Sandy damage,and way too many "meatball" type patch repairs.
Add to that little or no time to do proper repairs/replacement work,and heavy traffic levels.
