Why doesn't NJT mix the multi levels and single levels in one consist for revenue service? Also wouldn't this solve their car shortage buy mixing them up?

So you do not any wise butt answers, as this answer is in the multi-level board, The electronics do not work together. That's the easy answer.

NJT runs mixed trains, deadheading to or from the MMC.

But they don't open the doors or power the heat/lights/ac. Only the brakes are connected.

That's all you really need to run a train, freight trains do that all the time! All the rest is just creature comforts to minimize passenger complaints! :wink:
