Dutch Railnut and all: I was referred to you specifically for this by LIRRs Tom N403SG. Why does the MNCR almost always run their M1 and M3 cars separately? Tom mentioned how the LIRR did not consider them compatible at first but modified them to be. Anybody know anything else about this? MACTRAXX

On MNCR the cars are not set up same. the acceleration on M1 is diffeerent than on M3's
Due to lack op power at substations the M fleet is turned down on rate card.
A M1 is set at 75% or there abouts, the M3 is set at 60 or 65% at best.
What that does when coupled is a M1 will pull like hell up to 45 mph then the M3 takes over.
With braking same problem and very rough train handeling is experienced without an option for the Engineer to control it.
are they run as mix ??? yes on occasions where its neccesary to run them together due to operational emergencies.
Like a few years back when the M-3's could not lead till a cab signal modification was done.

When you refer to the rate card, does that mean that the car is restricted to only accelerate at 75% of it's maximum service rate?

Out of curiosity, does this apply to the M2/4/6s as well?

The M2/M4/M6 have complete different propulsion systems.
The rate card sets the step rate(advancing) for the cam controller based on Amperage , Voltage / Speed
