There is a picture in Archer's LV book which shows a train going by a trackside post with a diamond shaped metal piece on top with numbers stencil cut into it. Is this a LV milepost? If so, was this the only type the LV had? Are all mileposts on LV measured from Jersey City? or from Sayre or other division/junction points?

The photo does show a standard Lehigh Valley RR mile post. This is the only type that I ever observed on the LV main in New York state. All mile posts on the New Jersey-Buffalo main were shown as distance from Jersey City which, in the LVRR ETTs, is MP 1.0.

Thanks very much for the info.

You are welcome. Was amazing to observe how fast these MPs disappeared after 0001 hours 01 April 1976 on line segments not under ConRail.

And some under the control of ConRail, as well.......................

Jersey City was 1.0, and for 0.0 bring a wet suit...middle of the Hudson River. I find it amazing too that there were so few measured miles. For example 16 to 17 is just slightly less than 3/4 mile on the New Jersey Main.
