Hell, thats nothing.

I remember in the 1980s, before DPU, when Conrail would run those monster APL stack trains. Rule book max was 40 5-packs, with more requiring special authorization. The most I've seen is 42 5-packs, 210 platforms, powered by 5 motors up front.

Back when the stacks used to be run for the dedicated customers using the 5-packs, those 200 platform trains didn't have alot of slack on account of the 80% fixed drawbar factor. DPUs weren't needed back then, becuase those trains ran with the equivalent slack of a 50 car mixed freight. Today, with the increase in 3-packs and single well cars, alot of those rigid couplings have been eliminated and replaced with normal couplers, and the slack associated with normal couplers has been re-introduced, so yes, DPUs almost are a necessity nowadays for that length.

Heard they split that train in half at the new Global 3 facility in Rochelle, then sent the first half of it out late morning on Friday 2/9. It ran against a steady current of westbounds, while the dispatchers held them up twice at two different staging points in Metra commuter territory, before finally arriving Global 2 at Proviso around 5pm or so. Took at least five hours to go just 60 miles...

Thats cause of global 2 wasn't ready to handle the train so we sit till they want us.

This train did not leave ictf/long beach at that length. metro link would not run a 13000' train they restricted trains to 6500', BNSF would not take this train it is well over drawbar for the cajon pass even well DPU' ed and I dispatch both the LA sub and the mojave sub and it did not run that way either at that length

Looks like they "might have" combined trains at Ogden or Salt Lake there buddy, then it went DPU. In the BU there it shows the last three (DP)motors getting added at UY993.
