Lackawanna Cutoff Passenger Service Restoration

The Cutoff is a project that is worked on as time(manpower) and material available basis.
After Sandy,the lack of $$$$ to do basic state of good repair work,and now the PTC(ACSES II ) botched installations/software along
with Amtrak's notice of have ACSES installed or NO NEC access as of 12/31/18,have backburnered the cutoff for a while.

With these "stats" set forth. and everything else Mr. Backshop notes, it is no wonder NJT's priorities are elsewhere:

At this time, Tuffy the Turtle, Woodsie the Owl, Sammy the Squirrel, et magna alia, need not fear their "squatting" will be interrupted.

We've heard that one before. Amtrak is no iron fist (rather soft) and will give another extension. Like Joe Nameth once said " I guarantee it!"

I personally don't think NJT is the problem. The rail transportation problem in NJ is that the legislature and or governor tend to re-allocate transport funds to their (or their friends) pockets.

Some positive news for the Cutoff - Andover, NJ Transit, and Hudson farm have reached a tentative agreement on the culvert work that has been holding up the project. This means there is no longer a need for the township to use eminent domain on the property. Looks like we will finally be getting some movement in the coming weeks, although any clearing of trees and brush will have to wait until the fall. Since the project is using federal funds, no work of this nature can be done during the mating season of the Indiana Bat (endangered species).

What is the difference if they cut the trees down now or in the winter? The trees will be gone either way...

Since it appears that Northern NJ is at the limits of where he and "Bonnie" are indigenous, best not do anything to upset their "fun and games" right now.

Reminds me of the desert turtle issue when UP wanted to double some track on Cima Hill in Nevada.

This line has been out of service for nearly 40 years.

What difference could a month or two (or 6) one way or the other possibly make at this point?

By the time NJT works up the RFP's, allow time for bids to be submitted, study them and come to a decision the six months will probably be up.

I see the old thread is being dusted off again.

Will the Cutoff be restored by the 100th anniversary of its closing? I mean, all the way to Slateford? Not that I can see.
