Unfortunately, they probably will go via NS/PAS/PAR*. So Enola to Mohawk, to Lawrence.

*this is not a diss of NS!

On Thursday afternoon, newly rebuilt Kawasaki bi-level cab car 1700D and coach 748D plus two others were picked up at Hill Yd Ayer by MBTA work extra led by MBA C-1 to head to Boston Engine Terminal making for an interesting GP40 sandwich.

Good. That means the 33 BTC-4C's less than 10 years old are the only ones not getting the full upgrades. I would imagine that's a small enough batch to install the ASA screens in-house so the full bi-level fleet can get both the audio and the visual announcements like all others. And a small enough batch that max authorized speed uprates from 79 MPH to 90 MPH like the others is likewise not too much of an in-house reach. They're too young to need any other work.

I wonder if all of this familiarity with the K-cars, especially in light of an expansion of the work order, might be the beginnings of the MBTA looking to Alstom to build the extra cars that the T was supposed to get from Rotem.

If I were Alstom, I'd almost be throwing together an unsolicited bid at this point...

and hopefully they would gladly accept!! the Rotem order should have never happened! The new rebuilds are great

I've ridden in a couple of Rotems lately with a bad vibration at speed. I'd rather ride in an unrebuilt K-car. The rebuilds are nice.

They modified the HVAC air intakes to match the 900s and Rotems, I see.

The 725 was delivered Thursday night.

Of interest are the last three coaches shipped west (721-740-1712). Apparently they got
taken all the way to Buffalo and are still in Bison Yard.

I have to agree with the comment about the Rotems. I was on car 842 tonight and never have ridden a car in 15 years with a vibration this bad.

PAR didn't deliver the 726 until Monday with predictable results from sitting in old Yard 8
all weekend. That is, getting tagged. It's on its way to Rochester for acceptance tests.
