On my way back to Rochester, NY from a trip to Indianapolis last month I came across an interesting sight on I-271 in Ohio... approximately 90 miles west of Erie, PA. Check out the following photos. I'm sure you'll recognize these structures. Enjoy!

So, does GE outsource part of locomotive carbody to outside contractors, or would these have been fabricated at another GE plant?
GE's Cleveland Apparatus shops have done locomotive work from time to time: could they, for example, be coming from there? (My grasp of Ohio's Interstate Highway network is hazy.)

I have seen these same rigs on I-265 at Louisville, Kentucky. I think I remember reading that these GE radiator assemblies are made in Mexico. So much for home cooking.

Very interesting photos you took. Thanks for sharing them.

If GE has outsorced the manufacture why doesn't it ship the assemblies by rail? The rail companies are good enough to sell to but not good enough to use thier services?

Hmm the assemblies would end up in La grange at EMD if CSX shipped them.
They have trouble getting anything from point a to point b

That is true... or they'd sit in Selkirk Yard for a month, then go back to the point of origin, then back to Selkirk again, then back to...
