My wife and I are visiting Chicago for the first time in January.
We'll be staying out in the burbs in Geneva. Hows the transport into the city? Any tips or suggestions?

Pretty simple from Geneva, just take the Metra UP West Line suburban train. The trip into Chicago takes a little over an hour. Schedules are here. If you have any more questions, try asking in the Metra forum.

If you want some good railfan viewing, station yourself at one of the following places during rush hour:
1. Canal street at the tracks north of Union Station/North western station
2. Roosevelt road bridge over south approach to CUS
3. Van Buren overpass at Michigan, over electric lines
4. Clybourn station (cortland and elston)

Or take a ride on the purple line, a rush hour only express ride up north. Just go in time to catch one home - the red trains follow the same route but take FOREVER.
