Ever since Scharnhorst left NY for Oklahoma, we have lost our eyes and ears on that line.

About all that I can add is that as of this past early October FGLK was using FGLK 1989 on the Auburn switch job (remote) with no caboose.

I see the Camillus and Solvay end of the line but rarely venture west. 3301-3303 were on the Geneva-Solvay turn yesterday, and 2305 was working the Solvay switcher last week.

Last Wednesday (12/28/16) I caught a pair of engines getting tied on to the string of covered hoppers that have been parked in Victor. I was passing by mid-day on duty so I didn't have time to stop and watch but saw the next day at least a half dozen have been hauled out of storage there. Seems the quantity of cars here has varied from time to time since they were parked there last year. When they first came in, they filled the main and the run-around siding at the west end by Rt 251 and nearly all the way back to School St. Now that siding is clear but the cars still stand all the way back to town. Seems like a lot of cars to move to clear a siding you can't get to.
Also of interest: The siding installed in Manchester for grain and glass after the grade-crossing installation wyed in from the west and terminated near Rt. 21 next to the main. I've recently noticed they put an additional switch in on the dead-end. Anyone know when this happened? Must be fairly recent - I drive by frequently.
Happy New Year all..

The Manchester transload facility has worked out well, FGLK has a nice amount of business there. While it would have been neat to have seen a spur constructed right to the TOMRA facility, from a business perspective having both the grain and the glass loading where they are is much more desirable.

They hit a car in Camillus the other day -

http://www.syracuse.com/crime/index.ssf ... me_article" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The driver was leaving Hinsdale Plaza at Milton Avenue and Hinsdale Road around 2:30 p.m. when the driver's SUV got stuck behind another vehicle on the tracks, police said. The tracks run parallel Milton Avenue in front of the plaza.

A Finger Lakes Railway train was heading east when the operator saw the vehicle, but the train could not stop completely in time, police said. The train hit the SUV, but only caused minor damage, police said.

It's been more than 40 years since I've seen a train in Penn Yan.
Does anyone have photos to share?

Thanks,
Lee

"Finger Lakes Railway B23-7 2306 pulls a cut of 28 centerbeam flats and a couple of WCOR boxcars out of Penn Yan, NY on 4/17/13. The centerbeam flats were stored up the ex Pennsy toward Bellona. Their were about 200 stored there until recently."

#2306 is in P&W piant.

Noticed today all stored covered hoppers are gone from Victor. Caught 2309 + 2310 on Tuesday afternoon (1/17/17 ~ 16:00) EB leaving the NYC/LV junction in Shortsville with 11 other covered hoppers (not from Victor). Will add pictures soon. Also noticed 2310 has red horns on it. Maybe from something in the dead line in Geneva?

Now the residents can get used to NOT seeing cars there, so they can bellyache all over next time some are parked there.

Too bad they nibbled away at them instead of pulling the whole bunch at once. Altho the photographers probably would have missed out anyway.
