Amtrak seems to have retired alot of it's F40s. Some were sold to Metrolink. An additional P42 purchase would be ideal if Ottawa gives them the money and Paul Martin just froze 600 million in funds but he has money to buy horses for the mounties and circulate propaganda

There are a few Ex Amtrak F40's still running about the world. Railroads such as CSX, Alaska Railroad and the Panama Railrway have added them to there fleets. I don't for see these units parting anytime soon.

I doubt that they will get the $$ anytime soon to buy P42's because Paul Martin owns a Bus Lines also how old are those F40's.

Once again, the oldest Via F40's are as new or newer than Amtraks newest ones were. They won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Even if Via were to purchase new power, it would prob be to supplement, not replace.

Paul Martin used to have an interest in Voyageur/Colonial Bus Lines which is no longer a major player in the market, having been driven out on most routes by Greyhound. He also owned Canada Steamships which was passed down to his children.

Anyway, the current government's position on transportation means no money for almost anything, especially VIA.
