I was just going to say -- it's just as easy to sleep through a local stop.

So I road the Norristown train today, it's been years. Caught the local from Norristown into Philly. Are there speed restrictions or are the speeds really that slow? There is decent spacing between the stations but I'd be surprised if the train hit 40mph between Norristown and Manyunk.

Lots and lots of curves along that Schuylkill River.

A copy of the Norfolk Southern TT from 2001 shows its 40mph from Abrams (CP Norris) to the CP Rock (the Manayunk exit on the Schuylkill expressway.

River valleys were a preferred place to construct rights of way for the B&O and Reading to eliminate heavy grades for coal traffic, but the trade off is you can't run in a straight line.

In the late 1800's when this line was constructed, 40mph was like traveling at the speed of light compared to horseback or walking. Now that line has to compete with SUV's and German sports cars speeding angrily along I-76.

Thanks NPlimited. I did notice the curves. I guess a regular rider of that line would be used to it. I just got frustrated by the slow speed.

Ahhh lol... I don't see MAS on that line being higher than 80 MPH...

Before the rails were renewed, the running joke was that the Norristown/Manayunk MAS was 50 mph - 30 mph forward and 20 up & down.

The MAS is generally 50 mph but there are two stretches where 60 mph is authorized: The 2.5 miles of tangent track between Allegheny and Wissahickon and the first 1.5 miles west of Conshohocken. There are, of course, several sharper curves requiring slower speeds along the way.
