Do you need good credit to join NS?

i just completed a online application for northfolk southern railroad
they ask for perm. to check mt credit standing. does this have anything
to do wth gettin a job with the railroad

I've never heard of the NS checking credit. To be sure, there are plenty of guys on the NS with bad or spotty credit.

As far as I know, the NS is mostly interested in your work history.

It does in passenger service. They don't want people who are hard up for cash to start stealing revenue on the trains. In freight I could see them checking for credit as well they don't want you to pilfer from your train consist.

I didn't have perfect credit when I hired out with NS so it must not make that much of a difference. Like others said, they are more concerned about your criminal and work background than anything.
