Anyone know the status of the project to replace the bridge deck on the bridge over the Oradell reservoir in Harrington Park NJ?

I thought I read in the local papers that CSX has the materials they need on site, but have yet to schedule the repair. This bridge is quite small, and yet has garnered ALOT of interest in the local newspapers.

If it's anything like the replacement of the grade crossing on NJT's Pascack Valley line at Kinderkmack road in Emerson, NJ - that section of bridge deck could be "on site" for years. I recall the grade crossing laying next to the track just south of Kinderkmack road for at least 3 years before it was installed.
Hopefully the bridge will be replaced before anything happens up there - although I doubt that is really an issue. As you said, it's a short section, and the speed has been reduced over the bridge. I read it is 25mph. That explains why it always takes trains so long between A15 and A17, and not nearly as long between A 13 and CP10, or A19 and A21 or CP22.
Last Sunday, it seemed that traffic on the River sub was extremely light until around 18:00, so I thought perhaps work was being done on that bridge. Guess not. I would expect to hear trains calling for permission through the work zone.
With the section already fabricated, the work probably won't take more than a few days - or even just a single day. I would bet it would be done on a Monday when traffic is lowest anyway.

I thought I read that all they needed to do was replace the ties on the bridge. For a big class 1 I don't see how they can't do that in a day.

That was the original statement by CSX, but after the hype over potential disaster, CSX decided to replace the entire bridge deck. Apparently, the FRA found in its own inspection, that the bridge deck is in worse shape than what CSX inspectors had originally stated.
I'd like to see a lot of the bridges on the River sub replaced - what about the Catskill trestle? Wasn't there already a derailment on that trestle? Before the DED was installed at Catskill?

Just read an article in The Record. Work to begin on Oradell reservoir bridge this month.

Was track side in the Newburgh area today from 1030 to around 1330 hours. Had only one through train, K419 with CP engines 9628 and 9760.

Also, of note local C711 was tied down on the Newburgh Industrial track. Looks like they served Ray's Rail Materials yesterday. Dropped off two scrap gondolas and picked up three. They recrewed around 1200 and were heading to Beckerle lumber in Haverstraw with one centerbeam and then to Aluf Plastics in Orangeburg with five covered hoppers before returning to Kingston. Interesting move was that the power for the local was 2476 and 6219. The 2476 had been set on the old Erie yard lead track off the industrial spur and the 6219 took the cars to Rays due to 6 axle power prohibited on the line. This morning 6219 shoved all the cars off the industrial track before 2476 came out and joined the rest and then lead heading south. Heard the dispatcher say the only other train on the line for awhile was a C911 local heading out of Selkirk, back to Kingston.

Also, as stated in the last few comments, CSX is replacing several bridges along the line. CSX currently has a large crew in Newburgh just north of CP55. As of today they were finishing removing the old Main line bridge. For the interim CSX has cut it lead track into the old NYC yard and has redirected the main track over onto the NYC yard lead right-of-way and then back around onto the Main before reaching CP55. It looks to have all materials on sight. Will be interested to see if they reconnect the NYC yard lead since CSX hasn't served the yard in over a year.

Work is in progress on the new bridge deck at QR 15.6. Last train to cross the bridge today was southbound L262, which was then held at the Bogota CC boards. Apparently last NOBO train (didn't catch the symbol) outlawed at CP38. Heard NI giving auth code and phone number to crew for taxi.

On my way back from Selkirk Yard caught the following,
Q-273 -CSX GEVO/AC44 / GE wide cab
K-142 - CSX 880 /BNSF 5077 / CSX 7595
L-409 - CSX 3203 / CSX 498
Local power in Kingston had CSX 6110 / 6297
Question, L409 was working the Kingston yard before heading south, is this a switch. Over the past 5 plus years I would normally see the Q-417 dropped off. Secondly, I have noticed that I have not heard on the scanner or seen the Q-702 and Q-703. Are they still running these unit trains or are they just tacking them onto the manifest trains? At Selkirk there was a long string of green trash cars on the North side of the yard. I figured they were running overnight but after seeing some of Waldwicks posts I'm not so sure...

A few months ago, Q409 took over the Kingston drop, so Q417 could work Bellmans and Bergen. Q702 and Q703 have been abolished in June, and their cars will be on 438/439 now

Waldwick thanks for the info, it also looks like those trash cars are also coming in from the west as well. Here's some pictures of Q626 and Q263 that I recently saw on line.

Also was trackside today for a short time. Of note, the bridge in Newburgh has been completed in front of shipyard / warex terminals. Of note is they moved the main line onto the row for the old NYC yard lead and haven't replaced the switch, severing the lead into the yard. Over the past years they had been hauling out contaminated dirt in gondolas and prior had armn cars with potatoes off loading in the yard.
