MANHATTAN, NY (NYC) **TRANSIT ALERT** NYC SUBWAYS.. DUE TO ONGOING CON-ED POWER REDUCTIONS: "V&W TRAINS" SUSPENDED, "E&F TRAINS" RUNNING EVERY 10-MINS, "R TRAIN" SUSPENDED 57TH ST (MNHTN) - CONTINENTAL AVE (QNS). 07/19/06 02:36

Please can some one explain why they are reducing power. Is it to the city or just the T/A any help please.

From their website:

"Due to ongoing concerns about power supply in the Queens neighborhoods of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside and Woodside, NYC Transit has curtailed or suspended service on several subway lines that run in those areas at this time. "

Sounds strange to me.

Well, I don't think they wanted to have a repeat of 3 years ago, so I guess they wanted to play it safe.

We have been trying to get Con Ed to deliver some new lines to LIC for a while now. There is a noticeable increase in development (after years of just the CitiCorp building), and Con Ed is way behind in upgrading the neighborhood.
