I am curious on how things will play out next Monday. Would a Shared Assets crew be sent out of Pavonia to run lite to Tuckahoe, pick up the passenger cars and then meet the SRNJ with the rest of the train at Winslow? Myself and a friend of mine came across several good photo spots between Tuckahoe and Folsom on Saturday. I hope the weather is sunny next Monday.

Well, I crossed that crazy line long ago.

On a more optimistic note, it looks to be sunny next Monday on the extremely un-reliable 5-day forecast from the Weather Channel...anyone want to place a wager on how late the move will run next time? I'll start the betting with the first wager at 3 hours. Ran 5 hours and 45 minutes late from the original timetable this time, I figure CMSL and SRNJ will be more reliable than Conrail / CSX in prepping it for it's move north, so it has a chance of being a little bit more on time next time around...
I do not know where the circus train is headed to next, but having worked the circus train a few times already, I would put my money on 3-4 hours late depending upon how the circus train trainmaster wants the train drilled out and due to the fact that the drilling can not be done while the cars are laying over as the tracks are usually protected by blue flag & derail right up until the time for the cars to be picked up.

OCtrainguy, I thought we were tettering on the edge of that line while standing in downpours and snow at Lakewood and walking the 1/2 mile or so in it to get to Woodhaven to photo the SA35 with the usual suspects.

nolifeCRchaser, we were definetly teetering. The wind those days kept us that way! :D As far as the snow, there is a kid (who wants to play in the snow) in all of us! We have been out in the rain the past two times that circus train ran in our state. I think that shows we were walking on that line. There's always the hat trick next week! All in effort to enjoy our hobby!

As I understand it so far (preliminary information only), a CSAO crew will be dispatched in the morning hours to run direct to Tuckahoe where the first pickup will be made. They will proceed north to SRNJ at Winslow where they will pick up the rest of the train, and head out of town. Most likely, it will once again be the CA-51 crew, on duty at 1030. They'll be out of the yard probably by 1100 to 1200 with light engines if it goes this way. 1 hour to Winslow, another hour to Tuckahoe. Give a little slack time in there, expect them at Tuckahoe around 1330 to 1430. The move north after that time is VERY tentative due to the reasons listed in the post a few above this one.

SRNJ sources predict mid-morning to afternoon northbound move from Atlantic City...therefore I'll put that right around the 1100 to 1200 zone.

A recrew will take place in Pavonia, where the symbol will change from CA-51 (or CA-whatever) to a CSXT P-xxx symbol.

Take care.

I finally got my photos uploaded.

The Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Blue Train caught up with me at Cedar Brook on its way to Winslow Junction on Monday afternoon.

and continued to the grade crossing at Bairdmore Ave.

which was then pushed back to allow the Conrail crewmen on the ground to climb into the locomotive.

So far, the weather looks good for Monday. It is not supposed to rain, unlike the previous two moves of the train. I picked up photos from this past Monday, and like Bob's photos, you can tell it was really raining.

I have to amend my previous post concerning the weather. Monday was previously stated as a sunny day, but now the forecasts I have seen/read are stating rain showers throughout the day. Can't it be a nice day when the circus train moves?

Nah, that's just not possible this year. Rain showers? I'm looking at a forecast here calling for 1/2 inch of rain tomorrow. Looks like I"m breaking out the rain gear in another attempt to shoot at least something presentable...I drove over 200 miles last week back and forth and all over the place and shot 4 photos that I can actually show someone without being ashamed...and didn't shoot 1 chrome image...

Here's how things are to go. SRNJ crew called for I believe 0700 to go to Pleasantville. Train due back in Winslow around 12-noon or so. The Tuckahoe section should be waiting at that time. Conrail power will simply tie on and go. The crew this time will not be CA-51, I don't know what they'll use. Engines should be long hood forward geep 2559 leading 7136 also long hood forward...

Whole train should be out of the area by 2:00PM if all works out right...

  by nolifeCRchaser

Shortly after I arrived at Winslow, another railfan from last week stopped by and we saw the 2559 & 7136 running lite towards Tuckahoe on the Beesley's at around 10-10:30am. A little while later the SRRNJ shoved the freight half of the train onto the track leading to the Beesley's at Bairdmore Ave, where it sat for a while. The Shared Assets crew arrived later on and sat for a while before picking up the freight & animal cars. While Shared Assets was doubling their train, I headed over to the grade crossing west of the SRRNJ, where the train had the road block and police were on the scene. One of Winslow's finest was attempting to chase down the engines as the train was pulling before realizing he would never make it to the head end. The train eventually shoved clear of the crossing where the conductor walked up and boarded the train and left for Pavonia. Overall, it was worth standing out in the rain photographing the circus train, especially when it had stopped at Bairdmore Ave with the 7136 in the lead. Other than the rain and the waiting, everyone seemed to have a good time. Maybe next year the weather will cooperate.

nolifeCRchaser, sounds like you made the most of a very wet day. What time did the train leave Winslow to head to Pavonia? I noticed that the sky was getting darker around 3:30 p.m. as I sat at my office wishing that it wasn't raining. Did you get any photos of the SRNJ portion. Sounds like you stayed in Winslow, is that correct? You'll have to share your photos when you can. :)

nolife,

I'm surprised they put a CSX C30-7 junker on the front of that circus train!

I started at Tuckahoe and was tired and wet by the time I got to winslow, so I bagged it. Here's my report:

I drove to Tuckahoe Monday morning hoping to catch CMSL power on the half of the Ringling Bros circus train that was to be taken to Winslow Junction to be joined with the other half of the train, brought up from Pleasantville by SRNJ.

http://www.subwayspot.com/gallery/album42/04_05_03_01

http://www.subwayspot.com/gallery/album42/04_05_03_02

Lehigh Valley F7 #576 and PRR GP9 #7000, both owned by United Railroad Historical society of NJ and leased to Cape May seashore Lines, were on the point.

http://www.subwayspot.com/gallery/album42/04_05_03_03

During the seeming endless wait for the Conrail power to arrive, I took some photographs unrelated to the circus train. In honor of Will Coxey, I’m posting links to all three photos of CNJ GP7 #1523.

Also, the restoration work on Tuckahoe Tower should be of interest to most recipients of this message (on my email list).

http://www.subwayspot.com/gallery/album42/04_05_03_09

The CMSL power pushed the train back to a switch that allowed the power to cut off and enter the siding. It returned to the station and coupled onto CNJ 1523.

http://www.subwayspot.com/gallery/album42/04_05_03_14

The Conrail power finally arrived, after running to Bulson Street to wye, and moved the two end-of-train flats to the Beesley branch.

By the way, it was overcast and raining, just like last Monday when the train arrived.

The remainder of the train then was backed onto the flats and the train headed toward Winslow Junction.

At Winslow Junction, the rain came down harder and the sky got darker and I called it a day.

On my way home to Collingswood, I stopped to photograph WPCA-51 waiting for the RBBB train on the siding at Magnolia.

Bob, nice photos. Looks like the LV F7A was able to brighten things up somewhat on a rainy day. I'm glad to see that Tuckahoe Tower is being repaired.

Would've loved to see the C30-7 again, but that's the way it goes. Did anyone get photos of the SRNJ portion before they reached Winslow Jct.?

And now everyone gets to listen to my narrative with illustration from today:

Well, at least the rain wasn't quite as bad this time as last Monday
(though it was still raining none-the-less). Now, remember how
the "schedule" had the train up at Camden by 2:00PM if all went
well? Ummm...that sort of changed to around 6:00PM. Four hours
late...and it was only coming from Tuckahoe / Pleasantville...the
lateness was primarily due to some crazy moves that they had to make
at Tuckahoe and Winslow to change the order of the cars as requested
by the Circus Trainmaster...

The symbol that this ran under today was SC-82...if memory serves me
right, "SC" stands for Stony Creek. Why they were using a Stony
Creek crew over here in Jersey for this train, I don't know...and are
Stony Creek crews qualified on the Beesley's? Apparently they
are...and we didn't have just one over here today...it was reported
to me that another train running under SC-80 was turning engines on
the wye at HATCH / JERSEY later on...

Here's today's released photos at this time...I have others, but I
have to give you some reason to come over and pay the website a visit
when I update :)

1. Circus Train SC-82 northbound approaching Bairdmore Avenue,
Winslow NJ, with the nose of the aging C30-7 reflected in a puddle of
water (hey, if it's going to rain all darn day, I'm going to do
something worthwhile with the result of all that rain):

http://members.aol.com/jjmdimunno/SC82_Winslow.jpg

2. After spending over an hour picking up the flats and animal cars
and making some crazy shifting moves at the north end of Winslow
siding, SC-82 heads north through Braddock, NJ:

http://members.aol.com/jjmdimunno/SC82_Braddock.jpg

3. And as if the train wasn't delayed enough, apparently there's a
10MPH speed restriction between MP 19 (just north of DCS-FLO) and
somewhere north of there (I don't have an exact milepost for the
end)...so it took them much longer than it should have to reach
Haddon Heights. But the Duke and I waited it out despite the
increasingly heavy rain and shot it coming north, approaching Station
Avenue:

http://members.aol.com/jjmdimunno/SC82_Heights.jpg

Wait till you see the perfect weather we're supposed to have
tomorrow. Couldn't have that for either of these Mondays, could we?
Nah...continuous rain for the whole day. All in all, I was
relatively impressed with my results from today even though I didn't
make it to Tuckahoe in time for the NB departure...much better than
last week.

And oh yeah, all the while they're making these moves at Winslow, CA-
51's sitting in the siding at Magnolia. I found out that it was
there from around 1:00PM - 1:30PM until the SC-82 passed at about
5:00PM. They didn't make it to Winslow, they only went as far as
Cedar Brook Distributers I believe...the Winslow block was left on
Magnolia siding. Just as well, Winslow's pretty packed with cars
now...

Take care everyone.
