Besides Athearn trucks, what will fit on an Athearn frame?
Discussion related to everything about model railroading, from layout design and planning, to reviews of related model tools and equipment. Discussion includes O, S, HO, N and Z, as well as narrow gauge topics. Also includes discussion of traditional "toy train" and "collector" topics such as Lionel, American Flyer, Marx, and others. Also includes discussion of outdoor garden railways and live steamers.

The truck mounting points on Atlas/Kato are not compatible.

The way the the Athearn trucks pivot is on a pin in the underframe,Atlas/Kato trucks, don't use a pin to pivot, the underframe rides on a
shoulder molded on the truck frame.
Are Kato and Atlas trucks interchangeable with each other?
I have been told that all Kato frames use the same truck mount confguration, so that the four- and six-axle units would be able to interchange trucks. So far so good, but Kato Blomberg GP40 trucks are scarce and pricey, Atlas are less so.
Just to be clear, goal would be to mount Atlas GP40-2 trucks on a Kato SD45 frame. Is it possible?
