Tuesday night I think I heard a train coming out of the loop. Lots of squeal coming from that direction.

every night trains come around the loop. they come from the storage tracks under lexington avenue.

The consist is always coupled with Bend to Endine then every A end has to be coupled to B end of next car.
This is due to electric system hookup. one side has communications jumper the other side of car has the Traction jumpers.
And that seems to be the case with the Bombardiers operated by NJT, SEPTA, and SLE too.

And then we get to Boston and the MBTA, where I have seen (and gotten video of) their Bombardiers coupled in any which way they want within a consist. I've always wondered how they could get away with that.

Dual jumper setup, perhaps?
