At some point this fall -- probably October -- I will be taking a short trip to Gettysburg, and also visiting DC and Williamsburg VA. I'll be traveling by car and will have a non-railfan with me (who does happen to be a history buff). I'd love to get any suggestions on rail-related places to go / things to do that are within an hour's drive of those aforementioned destinations. I'm not really planning on doing any "railfanning" per se (unfortunately), but things like museums, tourist trains, historic sites, etc., would be of interest.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :-D

The tourist train is still running, diesel not steam. Or at least it was in October when I was out for Family weekend. My daughter is a sophmore.

There is a maniline that runs thru next to the tracks used by the tour train. Goes between the college and the downtown.

Lots to see. Good food at the Cashtown Inn. The tavern under the dobbin house is good casual eats too.
