Several of the N&W T-6's are in service on the Arkansas & Missouri Railroad. Although NS was formed in 1982, the logo was not developed until 1984 so it would make sense for SOU and N&W to retain their separate identities. The December, 1985 retirement of the T-6's and C630's is correct. The C628's were leased and then bought by the C&NW in July 1973 for a bargain price of $130,000 apiece. They went on the become the last six-axle Alcos to operate for a Class One railroad; being retired in October, 1986.

I always liked those C628's, especially in that Trains Illustrated article at their retirement. Are these units still sitting in a deadline or are they scrapped yet? With the price of steel lately it would be no surprise if they're gone now, although they would make good pullers for a short of power line like NYSW.

sorry, but they have all been scrapped. :(
sadly, there is not one single surviving Alco C628 in the USA..
there are 3 known survivors.
2 at a museum in Mexico.
and one in a museum in Australia.

of the three, only one originally belonged to a US railroad.
one of the units in Mexico is D&H 610.
