I was on Amtrak last weekend from Philadlephia to Lancaster,
and east of Downingtwon (near Exton??) there was an what
looked like an abandoned right of way parallel to the line just 20 yards or so to the north.
It still had bridges in over roads, etc.

Looking on maps later, it seems to end on the east end near the Septa
facility between 202 and Sproul Rd (route 352).

What was this? It seems on from maps to be an extension
to the west of the
trenton cutoff. It crossed the main line at Whitford Rd
and then went south around Downingtown to rejoin the main
near Coatesville. Was it made to have lower grades than
the main for freight, or just to relieve traffic, etc.. Or sometihng
different? When was it abandoned?

thanks, JS

What you found , was the Philadelphia & Thronedale line "P&T"
Last used in the late 1980`s.
