I think it was being worked on. And yes, I imagine they have paint shops in Dansville.

It looks like the #3618 is done.

From B&P Yahoo email group:

The Rochester and Southern Ry ran a extra Northbound train this evening
from AMPI in Dansville, NY to Brooks Ave in Rochester, NY. NYSW3618
fresh from overhaul was the sole unit. Currently it is sitting in
Brooks Ave Yard, waiting to be interchanged with the CSXT in Rochester,
NY.

On the flip side, NYSW 120 was dropped by a CSXT W01106 rail train last
night at Rochester, NY. This unit should be interchanged with the RSR
to go down to AMPI for overhaul. This SW9 switcher has friction bearing
trucks and is restricted to 25 MPH. One has to believe that after
overhaul it will have roller bearing trucks on it.

NYSW3618 looks to have its short nose repainted. Look for it to be on
the NYSW by next week sometime!!

Like i posted in another group, i was happy and upset that its painted. The UP,SP, NYSW colors all gave it character.

Also just to inform, 3018 and 3022 which were all ex NS High nose sd40's, are all now Low nose, soon if not already painted NYSW Blk/Yellow sd40-2's. :-D

the #3018 is already an SD40-2, having been built as such for the Southern Railway as #3267. This will be the only true SD40-2 on the railroad (as in not being a Tunnel Motor or upgraded SD40).
The #3022 on the other hand is a straight SD40 and being upgraded to SD40-2 specs like so many other SD40's in service around the country.
