This 19th century engraving (1860) depicts the New Haven predecessor, New York and New Haven Railroad's depot on 27th Street in Manhattan. To avoid a possible objection by the New York and Harlem Railroad to the company’s New York charter, the NY & NH came into an agreement to use the NY & H tracks for access into the city. The unassuming Gothic revival structure to left is the New York and Harlem’s depot.
