winslow junction to vineland

I was driving in south jersey the other day and came across an abandoned line that appears to head north across rt 555(vineland) and then rt 40 in landisville. Im assuming this is the remnants of the cnj nj southern. When was the last time freight operated on this line? Is there any plans for refurbishing it? Who owns this line now? I also heard rumors of a tourist railroad wanting to operate on a portion of the nj southern div., near chats worth??

Isn't that part of the Southern Railroad of NJ (in Atlantic county) and the Winchester and Western (in Cumberland county)?

Thanks for the map and info. Im still curious why that line isnt in use. It would seem it would be direct to winslow from south jersey. It seems I read a while back in this forum the srnj was rebuilding a bridge that has been out, so they could use that line again. I guess im right in assuming from the map that the srnj owns the line from winslow to vineland?

The bridge in Collings Lakes has been repaired. There has been some clearing of the line from Winslow Junction to Vineland. There has been some legal problems that is holding up return to service on this segment. The service ended over the line in the late 90s when the bridge collapsed. From what I understand, from my brother, is the bridge was completed but looks rough.

Bridge work is complete, the bridge is OK but not constructed completely to SRNJ specs. Apparently W.M. Brode (major bridge construction company, they've done thousands of bridges) managed to make a mistake in the structural physics for construction...they actually constructed the approaches to the bridge 2 feet too high! Don't ask how they managed to do that...

SRNJ ran a test train (actually just a light engine) over the bridge from Winslow on Friday, October 29th, with the bridge constructed improperly...it looks good, with the exception of the approaches, which should be repaired soon...

In theory, I believe SRNJ could have trains up and running between Winslow and Vineland by the end of the year, but the line is pretty bad, might take longer to clear all that brush out...it's amazing what can grow up in 5 years...

I'm going to try to get down that way on Saturday, if I can get some time, I'll see what's going on. I'll come back with pics for everyone to see, if I do get down there...

This is probably a dumb question, but when the SRNJ reintoduces their service to the southern secondary, who are the cutomers on that line?

There's a team track down there at MP 118.5...there may be a few other customers on-line north of there, but the primary use for the line will be as it was back before the collapse: empty stone cars from SRNJ Winslow Division moved to W&W interchange at Vineland, to be loaded with sand over by Bridgeton.

Parkway south to exit 40, Route 30 west to Elm, NJ, south a couple miles on the local road. Look for tracks.

The line below Winslow Jct. is being cleared.

It looks like they are clearing a little more at crossings for safety. The brush was at the rail head before the clearing started.

There's at least one hopper car parked between Cedar Lake and the new bridge. It may me at the gravel pit shown on this map:

At one time the Winchester & Western wanted to interchange at Winslow Jct. before the bridge failure. Could this still happen?

Collings Lakes is the name of the development next the bridge. Cedar Lake is down the line a mile or so. I thought the names were fine (that's my two cents).
