Williams Grove, PA -

The Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association (http://wghsea.org) will be holding its annual Steam Show from August 27th through Labor Day, September 4th, 2006.

This year the Association is celebrating the return to service of its 105-year old Pennsylvania Railroad locomotive #643, an 0-6-0 switcher, model B4a built in June 1901 at the Altoona Shops. Come out and see the only currently operating PRR steam locomotive! The locomotive will be pulling a train of two open-air passenger cars and a PRR N6b Cabin Car, along a mile -long track. Visitors can purchase an extra fare ticket to ride in the cab of the locomotive or the Caboose if they want.

In addition to the steam train ride, there will be over a dozen antique steam traction engines, operating sawmill, thresher, and hay baler, and several operating stationary steam engines in the boiler house. A large O-scale model railroad layout will be operating. Dozens and dozens of antique gas tractors will be on display, and there is a large flea market area. In addition, two kitchens serve up homestyle food. There is a tractor parade at 6 PM every day, and live music and dancing every evening. A large consignment sale will take place on Saturday Sept. 2nd starting at 8 AM.

This year the Williams Grove Amusement Park, across the Yellow Breeches creek from the Steam Show, will be closed.

Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association is approximately 12 miles southwest of Harrisburg, PA, along U.S. Route 15. Take RT 74 North at RT 15 near Dillsburg, PA. Turn right at the first gas station onto Williams Grove Road, take the first left after passing under the bridge on to the show grounds.

Next summer, the Association will again be offering Engineer's School, where you can reserve a half-hour block of time on the locomotive and be taught how to run the locomotive, and operate on our track. Contact Bill Medlin (wmedlin<at>ptd<dot>net) for more info on Engineer’s School. There may be some time for Engineer’s School during the weekdays of the show this year, contact Bill for information.

Admission to the show is $2 per person, with free parking. Train rides cost $4 per person.

Next July 21 and 22 will mark the Third Annual Train Days Show, which will feature steam train rides, vendor tables, and other railroad-related displays. Mark your calendars and look for announcements!
