Because the Swiss, among others, still have a good amount of equipment that's not multisystem. There's still electrics from the 60's running around Switzerland, and shunters from the 30's (ok, one) still out there, even.

Who cares what happens to Snowmobiles, Inc? There's plenty of other competent builders (Siemens, Alstom, Stadler) out there that can build a working product. Just stay away from the Chinese or Breda... It'll be interesying to see what Stadler's KISS does out in California, though IIRC it's a bit too tall to fit into NYC anyway...
