Historical day in White River Jct.

Today marks a dark day in White River Junction history as the venerable two
story yar tower between the former B&M yard and CV mainline was finally torn
down. The structure, which once graced the cover of Model Railroader magazine,
had fallen into disrepair over the years and the final straw was when local
youths tied (and failed) to burn it down. After a short investigation it was
confirmed that the structure was indeed on former CV (now New Engkand Central)
property and thusly they decided it should go.

Old railroad structures no longer used become a magnet for the vandalism crowd.
Once the first window is broken and not quickly repaired, it is all downhill from
there. Nice N Scale building and loco from Nells. Thanks for the photo.

It has been many years since the B & M Yard Office has been used. I think the last days of staff in WRJ the remaining employees were in the passenger station on the second floor. My guess is at least 20 years of non use.
