I have never seen a line from Hanover to Manahawkin before--That must be the mistake---Any information on the Union Clay Works?---Maybe a spur to that? Also, maybe it was a proposal at one time for a line and never came about and was placed on the map anyway.

The route shown on the map between Hanover and Manahawkin likely represents one of several schemes drafted in the late 1880s and early 1890s to create a "short-cut route" between Trenton and Long Beach Island and/or Camden and Long Beach Island. Boosters sought the PRR's aid in each proposed route, but all died on the vine due to the slower than expected development of Long Beach Island and the Financial Panic of 1893. For further information, see John Brinckmann's The Tuckerton Railroad.

Doubtful the same railroad, but the Mount Holly and Tuckerton Railroad was incorporated 3-30-1855; that would have been more to the southwest.
