I remember reading around 1995 or so when Metro-North went shopping for spare F10's from MBTA, six were also picked up by MaineDOT for "eventual use on a new Portland-Boston train." Was this before the route was considered as a new Amtrak service? What happened to those locos MaineDOT purchased?

Otto-

This "sale", if it was ever real, never happened.

Maine DOT may have looked into when the first
whisper of Portland started, but it was a non-starter.

The FP10's are all gone. The closet one to Boston is ex-1153 which is a
static display at Edaville RR in Carver. Painted in Santa Fe colors. Also
is gutted and largely just a shell.

Several units went to Naparano in New Jersey for scrap.

Four went to Metro-North and all but one is retired (I think). One unit
went to the Adirondack Scenic in upstate NY.

The rest were sold to an equipment broker who kept three (1100,1101
& 1114) and sold the rest to Rio Grande Pacific Corporation, who
scattered them between three shortlines they owned. However, whatever
plans they had went to the wayside and all of them were shipped to the
Idaho Northern & Pacific. All are stored.

Meanwhile, the 1114 is stored at a power plant in Maryland. The 1100
went to the St.Mary's Railroad, overhauled and used on a tourist train.
The 1101 was bought by the Gold Coast Museum in Florida and repainted
into Seaboard Coast Line colors as their 4033.

MN F10's 411 and 413 are still active as of last week... they remain as power on the shuttle trains in diesel territory.

Thanks Otto.

The 1102,1103,1104,1107,1110, 1111 went to Naparano.
