WAG Conference II 2009

Honoring the Wellsville Addison the Buffalo & Susquehanna and Baltimore & Ohio railroads, that preceded on the rails of the WAG, and it's acquisition, the C&PA railroad, the men and women that worked on these railroads,
and YOU, The RR historians, railfans, modelers and train simulator programmers, that continue to give their interest in life's time, to the preservation of keeping the iron alive, in this the 30th Anniversary year of
the WAG's abandonment.

Sponsored by Piney Creek Model Works

###############################################################
I Apologize for the lateness of this WAG Conference program update. I have been very involved with with my parents’ health concerns, and until of late, haven't had the time I've wanted to devote to the Conference, on this the 30th year passing of the the WAG Railroad.
I still have good hopes to see you all in Galeton the 3rd weekend in August.
Thank You, Mike Holdridge - Program organizer

Where to Stay if you need overnight accommodations:

WAG CONFERENCE II - is a two day event. If you can make it for both days, and I hope you can, the URL just below with help you find a place to stay.

This website is the Potter's County Visitors guide. It will take you to the first page of places to stay in Galeton, and the surrounding area
http://www.pottercountypa.org/listings/ ... ID=2&hit=1

##################################################################
the Latest information as of July 7th, 2009
and the Schedule, as it has developed right now

the Time of this TWO DAY event is SATURDAY, AUG. 15th & SUN. AUG. 16th, 2009.

The doors will open for registration @ 9 AM, with Saturday's program starting @ 10:AM @ the Galeton High School, Galeton, PA.

Similar to the 2005 program,
It is planned to run the WAG CONFERENCE as one continuing event, Each presenter will have 40- 45min (MAX) for his individual presentation, with a 15 minute question and group interaction wrap up discussion, then a 15 minute break before the next presentation, and so it will go, continuing right through the day.

As of right now, we have 8 confirmed program presenters, those being:
David Augsburger (WAG), Michael Connor (B&S-B&O), Joe Loffland (WAG), Glenn Mallow (WAG), Paul Pietrak (B&O-WAG), Paul Raynes (B&O-WAG), Michael Schleigh (B&O-WAG) and, Dennis Tiley (Salzberg).

These Gentleman will fill the day with the rich railroad history that at one time permeated the Galeton area.

Also, David Clark, an art teacher in the Addison Central School district, also an artist, will again be displaying his great railroad works of the B&O, WAG, Erie, and EL on canvas, in different mediums. These items besides being on display, will also be available for purchase.

Great New Additions to WAG Conference 2009

For you Railroad Modelers:

We will have Table Display Space Available, and You are encouraged & welcomed to bring and show your B&S, B&O, WAG (Conference associated), Railroad Models, of any scale, to the program for display.
You will be responsible for setting up your own displays and their safe protection.
Please let me know if this is in your plan , as I want to have enough display space ready.

Also,
Their will be a presentation on the designing and building a modular layout of Newfield Junction, and the considerations and limitations that were recognized during it's construction.
The layout will be presented in it's completed form with buildings and scenery, and operating in DCC configuration.

And,
Because we WAG modelers look for items that operated on the WAG, and the most of those items are only available in an alternate medium,
We will have a seminar on constructing those "dreaded" Resin kits.
How they have progressed over the years, become much more user friendly, and including hands on assembly tips and techniques.

Now, For you Computer Guys:
There will be at least one, and hopefully more presentations from the author and creator of the B&O and WAG, Train - Simulation programs.
This is the ultimate venture into today's technology, to keep the B&O and the WA&G railroads running daily, and on schedule.
You will be shown how to down load these programs, and MANY pieces of operating equipment already developed and made up for the WAG, and B&O. You can not only go back to see B&O and WAG trains pass by virtually, but you can operate yourself a train from the cab, on the route over the switchbacks south of Galeton!

_______________________________________________________________________

Note: there is a possibility we may have one or two more presenters added to the program, as things haven't been finalized yet.

Other program inclusions that I am working on at this time:

1.) Door prizes: Yes there will be some and they are WAG railroad oriented.

2.) the WAG Conference Raffle.
We had a good time with the Raffle in 2005, and helped raise some money to help bring North East's WAG 1700 program home to NE, PA., and hope to raise more funds for our railroad's preservation.
Right now, we are in need of raffle items, and could use your help with donations to be raffled. Please email, [email protected] , or call me at 814- 832- 2531

3.) Vendors: I believe, beside David Clark's artistry, and Piney Creek Model Works, we will have an additional vendor present Saturday & Sunday. I continue to investigate others.

#####################################################################
Grub for the WAG Conference...
The success of a day long program is also measured by the food provided, and our dinner supplier, The Edu-Caterers, (several teachers from the Galeton Central School, formed a catering group), received "high marks" from those attending the dinner they provided at our first WAG Conference, so I hired them again for our 30th anniversary remembrance of WAG Conference II.
Additionally, the Edu-Caterers will also be supplying Saturday lunch, and Sunday lunch.
Please keep in mind that all the food for the conference has to be pre-ordered, and done so accurately, to prevent waste and unused surpluses. That is the need to ask for the food reservations by to be received by August, 7th.

( the Sat & Sun. lunches will be explained below the dinner menu).

^Funny you should ask! Yes!

2018 Buffalo & Susquehanna Symposium at Coudersport

We are well into planning and preparations for another B&S Symposium. It will be held on August 11 & 12 (Sat. & Sun.) and hosted at the Pennsylvania Lumber Museum located on US Route 6, east of Coudersport. Mark your calendars now!

The format will be very similar to that Symposium we conducted last August at DuBois. If you attended that one, you will not be disappointed with this next gathering. We will have full access to the Museum which has recently been renovated into a beautiful facility honoring this once huge industry in the Commonwealth. Several meals and snacks will be provided as part of your fee. There are nearby motels to facilitate our stay in central Potter County. A new feature being planned are an on-site Catholic Mass and a Protestant Ceremony, each service honoring recently deceased employees of the Wellsville Addison & Galeton RR, a touching remembrance.

The Potter County Historical Society is presenting this Symposium and they will soon be issuing a brochure with the salient details you need to register. They and the Museum will also soon have notice of the meeting on their web sites. Don't miss this one!
