The RR Club that I belong to is the owner of an Ex Southern RR 70Foot Heavyweight Baggage Car. Does anyone know the approx. empty weight of the car both with and without the 2-axle trucks. We need the weight to be able to move the car over the roads by truck.

The Weight both empty and max should be stencilled on the car near reporting marks.

The markings on the car have been painted over as the car has been out of service for about 30 years.

I know the average weight for a Pennsy baggage car, trucks included, is somewhere in the neighborhood of 114,000-115,000 lbs. I did not have any luck tracking down someone familiar with Southern cars exclusively, but a good guess would be that it is in the same ballpark as a P70 car.

I know that is not the best info by any stretch, but hopefully that gives you at least a starting point.
