In the current special collector's edition from Classic Trains Magazine, titled " Steam Glory 3 ", page 51 has a photo of Maine Central 4-6-2 # 470, bringing the railway's last steam hauled passenger train into Waterville Me., June 13th 1954. The photo has a great view of the Waterville Train Station, a classic structure in itself.

Where was the station exactly located and was it close to the present day park site, where engine 470 is on display.

It is nearly impossible to picture where the station once stood. The surrounding buildings are mostly gone. If you go to "historicaerials.com" and search for "chaplin street waterville maine" you can see the station a little above and to the left of center(if viewing 1956 aerial). It might help to click where it says "Overlays(off)" and select "all roads", the station is right where Butler Court is. If you zoom in or out a little to reposition the watermarks you can actually see 470 out in front on the College ave side. The nice thing about historical aerials is the slide option under compare to quickly see the differences.

When the station was torn down in '63 470 was brought into the yard where she stayed until 1970. She is currently situated where the concrete grandstands for Colby College's football field was on their former campus, which was just across and north of where the station was on College Ave

Could you scan in the photo? I'd love to see it, I have many more photos of 470 and a couple videos of her last run on my Facebook group, link in my signature.
