Looking at historic maps, it appears that there used to be a wye in downtown Worcester surrounding the Union Station site. The SPV rail atlas also shows such a wye (though they've made some mistakes before with their maps.) Did such wye exist, and if so was the northeast leg(between the station and the circle) removed when the station was built or at a later time?

Not sure, but maybe someone in the New Haven Railroad thread would know. I know there was a locomotive storage facility over by where the Peter Pan bus terminal is.......other than that, no idea of the old days.

There used to be a roundhouse just southwest of the station, torn down a few years ago, now the site of a SHAWS supermarket. Around 1910-1912, the line was rebuilt and raised along with construction of the new station. The former station was where the MOBIL gas station is now. There was also a 2nd station east, for the W&SRR (Worcester & Shrewsbury), a 3' narrow gauge RR.
