There is a decent chance that that car is empty or has very few people in it, but if it was the quite car there is a good chance it had many people in it. Another car seems to have contacted the overhead catenary which could of injured passengers. I am hoping the circuit was broken before the car was penetrated by the wiring.

Prayers for all on board
There's one cat tower that's gone through one of the cars as well. Looks that wrecked Amfleet hit that.

Local news in Philly currrently reporting 50 injured:
northbound Amtrak train derailed in Port Richmond Tuesday night, with at least 50 people injured.

Scores of emergency personnel swarmed over more than half a dozen toppled train cars, trying to reach the injured and dazed passengers.

Some people were reported trapped in the train, and crews were cutting into the cars to try to free the injured.
I fear that number will rise.

Just some observations:

- A little while back, PPD requested an EOD K9 to the scene and car counts (presumably for the freight cars in the yard next to the derailment)

- Video that MSNBC is showing what looks like an old PRR cat pole that was ripped out of the ground and completely twisted. They also just zoomed in on the ACS-64 from a wider shot. Both very striking images.

-Obviously hope the best for everyone involved, and will be interested to hear the outcome of the investigation.

Waiting for Blumenthal to also insert himself into this if Schumer is talking about something in Philadelphia.

FWIW Schumer was just on NBC New York and said there was no freight train involved and likely, for what ever reason, it was a blown speed restriction. He said he got that preliminary info from the head Amtrak honcho a few minutes before. Who knows for sure. There is a speed restriction on the curve however it could be a broken rail,a wheel defect, a traction motor dropping down or a myriad of mechanical causes. Schumer is a camera hound and should have stayed out of this at least for a day or so. Mayor Nutter said according to Fire/Rescue there are fatalities. Sorry to hear it.

6 critically injured, 53 non-critical or minor injuries. They're doing one last sweep of the scene to make sure they've got everyone, but those appear to be fairly reliable estimates per the press conference. Most passengers taken off-scene by SEPTA shuttle buses; most of those transports have stopped and buses + ambulances are just sitting on standby in case there are any stragglers. Most passengers self-evacuated, some were pinned and needed fire crews to cut through the cars to get at them.

Cell service in the Philly area is overloaded right now.

News chopper shows the freight train. The Sprinter came to rest near a string of tanker cars, but it did not strike any of them. Does not appear there was any correlation.

There are Amfleet trucks sitting in the dirt completely separated from the cars.
