It could be a lot worse. They're still on property and it gives Amtrak time to reconsider.

19-20, Crescent, four
50-51, Cardinal, two
NOL one
CHI one
SSY one
Shop one

This assumes all ten B-D's are on the property; that means the delivery of four were not reported on any rail discussion site I review.
Only 8 have been received. The 69000 and 69001 are still outstanding.

Andy
They've been on the Crescent but aren't programmed for the Cardinal until next month.

ApproachMedium wrote: Wed Nov 20, 2019 2:40 am Were talking about the wheel profile on literally every single passenger car, locomotive, baggage car etc. in america that runs on the amtrak network and possibly anything certified to run on it.

<snip>

I think it was actually the FRA who came up with the profile anyhow! But ill look in to that
It was the NRCC wheel profile vs the APTA profile. The NRCC was profile was designed with higher speeds in mind and differs from the wheel profiles of most other operations. Allow me to post the short version (which is still long:)

Corridor

There are other publications. You can google NRCC wheel profile for a lot more information.

Well, now learning that only eight are on the property, thst pretty well settles The Cardinal matter.

Now of interest; has the assigment of Bag-dorms to The Crescent resulted in whacking one Sleeper line or is there now additional Sleeper space available?

Finally, a corollary question. Is a full V-Bag still assigned, or are more nearly new cars off to axle count duties?

Looks like they are keeping everything "as is" Mr. Norman.

See this recent video

The "two extra diners" on the back are Bag-Dorm cars.

Both sleepers are in place as usual.

When a set operates with a bag dorm, the baggage car doesn't operate in the consist. The sleepers remain the same, so you've basically opened up sleeper space by moving the crew to the bag dorm.

Excellent news! More revenue.

Still wish Amtrak had ordered more bag-dorms though.

They should have gotten bag dorms instead of baggage cars in many cases because the baggage cars are almost never full

Actually Amtrak originally was going to get 25 but changed 15 to additional baggage. Hind sight is just wonderful isn't it ?

Well, even at the time many of us questioned the move.
Of course we're also the same ones still wishing Amtrak would have exercised the 70 car option.
Even if they're not diners at this point another 10-15 bag-dorms and 60 sleepers would mean we could have an extremely robust east coast overnight service.

They could always rebuild the diners they wasted money on instead of using them for axle count cars...

I think it’s better to build them out into cafe/diner-lite cars with a vastly smaller kitchen. Amtrak will need those eventually, and it would be a much cheaper conversion. (Still expensive of course.)

That frees up some older, worn-out cafes for axle count, if needed.

But of course the issue was that builiding the baggage cars first was a double win at the time: it allowed them to prototype the whole View II fleet with a simple car first, and it allowed them to rush replacments for the old baggage cars into service without having do debug the dorm systems (toilet, interiors, utilites)

Southbound Crescent #19 has a Bag-Dorm on the end. Not sure if it’s being used.

Recent observations suggest the Crescent is now regularly utilizing a bag dorm in place of the full baggage car.

Sweet. So that frees up some revenue space.
