I have heard from two reliable sources that AEM-7 #s 938 & 929 were moved to the track adjacent to the mainline at Wilmington today (2/12) for shipment to CA.

That has nothing to do with this.

And yes, they will be heading for cali soon. How long till they depart idk, how long will they sit with all their stuff intact before some buffs steal the horns and whatnot off them is another story.

JPBX,aka Caltrain,nee SP Commuter service will build catenary from 4th and townsend in SFO to San Jose,that has started,and
IS NOT part of CaHSR! Could become the "Meatball" retirement home. :wink:

Caltrain was tied to CAHSR in that the juice system and some platforms would be built to be compatable. Juicing is going on even though the gov'nr decided to castrate the system.

did they not buy stadler rail cars for service and double order ? https://www.railwayage.com/news/caltrai ... emu-order/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Most railroads found out using a electric engine on work train defeats some safety rules (most railroads use)
, like killing catenary in section were work will be performed.

They're for catenary testing and backup; not work engines. Caltrain has MP15DC units for towing work trains.

Keep your ears to the ground in early December. You may see an exodus of AEM-7s heading to RI.

Is this for a longer journey, perhaps over the water or for more local and "more typical" use?

that sure would be pre-pre -premature , no electrification has been planned or started ?? only board approved for planning.

Which board approved what for planning?

Might be that storage track where MBTA shipped the surplus ex-MARC Geeps from the prior contract operator.
