There seems to be new business for Pan AM in Holyoke, with several flatcars loaded with what looks to be four 20' MSW containers on them. The cars are spotted near the PVRR interchange near the crossing, and heard through the grapevine this will be recurring business, possibly weekly.

Those flats are still there as of 4pm today, along with a couple empty centerbeams. I saw at least 2 scrap cars on the same track a week or so ago. Good see the interchange picking up steam.

Took this shot earlier today. The view is from South Canal St looking North.

Not totally clear what is going on here. Note that the cars with the containers are on a siding not the PVRR-PAS interchange track.

Containers from a Latvian company.

This is new business for Pan Am, not PVRR. An industry source says these are empty containers arriving in Holyoke that get loaded with trash (MSW) and put back on the flatcars as an outbound move. Only five cars can fit on the siding presently, but at some point could grow to 10 to 14 cars with an everyday switch.

The customer is Republic Services. Their local work center is on Burnett Road in Chicopee.

Interestingly, Republic Services is not far from the old Westover AFB line.

There were a ton of businesses on the Westover Industrial until they decided they didnt want to serve them.

the biggest hassle with westover for rail were the folks that ran the park. for years they hated rail and guilford/st in particular. and when the pioneer valley offered to take over, the park told them to pound sand too.

Republic Service seems to already be a daily switch, or close to it. Monday EDSP took 5 cars down for them. Today ED4 took 5 cars north, and tonight EDSP took 5 more south.

EDSP! Blast from the past. This replace ED-2 roughly? I see Lescos on the head pin?

Is that an extended South Deerfield siding in your last picture?

Nice shots. Good to see trash moving by rail in containers. Too much plastic seems to weasel out of trailers on the roads.
