Is there a current unit by unit listing somewhere as to what is assigned where? I am mostly looking for lower numbered F40’s. Getting ready for my trip in the beginning of June!

A lot of the low numbered F40s are kind of all over the place right now. 100-125 are kind of split up between the BNSF, Milwaukee Districts, and SWS. I know 100-110 (with the exception of 105) are all MILW.

Good to know. I knew some were over there, as I have seen 101, 103 and 104 on the Franklin Park railcam. The lowest one I have shot is 109, sitting at Union under those crappy lights. So with that info, I am assuming most of the F40's I am seeing on the Chicago cam are in the 111-125 group. I see a lot more of them on the cam than the Winnies, assuming that's because of the rebuild program. Last time I was in Chicago, all the BNSF trains except for 5 or 6 had Winnies.

Any idea where 105 is assigned?

Thanks!

Another question.....I know the BNSF and SWS share equipment, but I am assuming they do not share with HC? The reason I am assuming that is I found a video on youtube from Canal St, and there were three trains that were backwards and went to the thru tracks the Builder uses, I assume those were HC sets?

That is, the last I knew, correct. HC equipment is stored during the day in the MILW Western Ave. Yard along with the MD and NCS trains.

Since the first HC train is the first scheduled to go to Western Ave. in the morning, it has been used as a protect set running backwards should there be an issue with the equipment for the first MD-N and MD-W outbound trips. Due to train lengths and loads, if needed, it will cover the MD-N even if the problem is with the MD-W train (that first HC train is, I believe, a three-car train; the first MD-W is nine cars - it doesn't need nine for the first inbound and outbound trip but it does for the second trip in (2222) - one of the super-expresses that runs express inbound after Schaumburg).

Posted in the service disruptions thread:

Several years ago 194 had a fire that was believed to have been caused by the alternator. That unit was rebuilt and was the first "Winnebago" to come from the current rebuild program. If the fate of 210 is not that severe it could be rebuilt much like 194.

To my knowledge 194, 215, and F40C 610 all had fires at one time.

206 is in service on BNSF. It is part of a double header. Can’t remember if it was leading or trailing.

197 is at 14th Street.

It is leading 181. Don’t know if it went out on BNSF or SWS this evening.

Keeping track of the Winnebagos (F40PHM-2/3’s) as of end of June/beginning of July:

MIA and presumably being rebuilt: 185, 187, 191, 201, 211

Rebuilt: 186, 188, 189, 192-194, 196, 197, 200, 202-204, 206-209

Still in blue: 190, 195, 198, 199, 212-214

Don’t know what will become of 210 after a recent fire.
