Probably good for about 10 more years by Pan Am standards.

I don’t hear any hot box notifcations on 161.54 or 161.16. Does it transmit on another channel?

If it's working it should be on 161.16, but your reception depends on how far you are from that detector. Your frequency of 161.54 is not a Pan Am channel, perhaps it is a typo of 161.52 the train to dispatcher frequency.

Thanks, it was a typo. Even when i’m Mobile in the Worcester summit area or rt12 Worc/W Boyl line, I’ve never heard the detector. I can hear the engine and dispatcher from my Auburn base, but never heard any detectors.

Where is the 7.8 milepost? Is there a landmark that somebody can give me?

MP X7.8 is the Temple Street/Rte. 140 grade crossing in West Boylston, 0.6 miles south of the southerly Rtes. 140/12 split.
Under the new order of things, Q426/427 is the principal traffic and usually is EB late-night and WB early-morning. The equipment detector -- as mentioned in other posts -- is a talker, has a low-powered transmitte,r and is also equipped for dragging-equipment detection. The actual location is just TT-east of the crossing, the equipment case and dragger detector readily visible. Depending on topography, it can go unheard from as few as 5 miles away, but I've also heard it from Rte. 2 in Westminster, a location of significant elevation advantage and favorable topography for hearing the 7.8.
Perhaps since residue tanks instead of loads are in the WBs, the MP X16.6 talker in Clinton has been allowed to remain OOS for a number of years.

Hey Jaymac, thanks for that intel. I did see the drag detector today on the East side of the crossing. From what I understand, the both detectors are in one at that crossing? That would make sense. I can hear both sides of the conversation on the Q426 usally between 7-9pm from Auburn. Thanks again. Sometimes light power lately goes up to Ayer at night.

Not ar all.
To keyboard the obvious, when we each and all share what we know, we help each other and the site.

427 tripped the M7.8 detector at 17:10 yesterday - observed 2nd half of train from the cemetery and it was straight box cars all the way.

What RR owns the track between Burncoat and New Born? I believe P & W owns from New Born (at the branch) all the way to the P&W yard. I suspect PanAm might own from NewBorn all the way to Ayer.
