I'm trying to think of a historical equivalent but the best I can imagine would be hotels attached to major terminals. Private office space construction sounds new to me.
Mr. O'Keefe, it would appear that FECI is taking a page out of Henry's playbook; "Build the railroad and they will come".

We will see, if a century later, such holds rewarding.

Finally, allow me to reiterate, I am not opposed to Brightline; I have no interests whatever in any of those Treasure Coast communities in Martin, St. Lucie, Indian River, and Brevard Counties (my Father resided in Vero Beach during Seasons 83-84 and 89-90; place was simply "Zero Beach" to me). I have been skeptical largely in part because I had the inner sense that FECI wanted out of the railroad business (I was correct on that). I thought the State was their target buyer and the prospect of passenger trains would simply "fatten up the steer". I never known a passenger train initiative having such a degree of success "slaying the infidels", although who knows how "Izzy the Insect" will take to having his buzzing disrupted as the new track is constructed. I've taken two joyrides to date, and plan another next January. I have found their product to be exemplary in every respect. So we shall see.

NY Central's creation of a whole business district above its GCT yards is clearly the best-and-biggest, but many of the old terminals came with office towers: NY Central in Cleveland, Philly's Reading, Braod St/Arcade Building, & Suburban. Detroit's Michigan Central.

To back up earlier information here is a link to an article in the local paper regarding the upcoming increase to 16 RT's a day weekdays beginning in August:

More and more good trains on the way. Good to see some growth in the passenger train part of railroading.

They are basically going to hourly service Starting in Early August (using Southbound as an example)

8:00 pm 8:37 pm 8:39 pm 9:14 pm
9:00 pm 9:37 pm 9:39 pm 10:14 pm

Compare that to a typical July weekday:

WPB FLL FLL MIA

6:00 pm 6:40 pm 6:42 pm 7:17 pm
7:00 pm 7:40 pm 7:42 pm 8:17 pm

Google maps says that departing WPB at 7am on a weekday gets you a road trip of between 1h20m and 2h30, and probably pay same-or-more to park on your destination end as Brightline charges on your origination end.

A predictable 1h17m, every hour, seems very competitive with driving, but this is *really* going eat the lunch of any other shared mode (Megabus, Greyhound, which schedule much slower average speeds and less frequent trips, at similar fares)

I have not heard of any changes to the freight operations, with the double track operation they have enough track capacity for both. I think they have some finishing up with a couple of crossovers although things are happening quite quickly these days. The PM rush can be busy at times with 292, 222 and the SB local returning from Pompano all between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM.

Isn't the whole secret sauce of this thing that FEC freight was already moving fast and that passenger trains could be scheduled along side it?

At least here nighttime does not begin until well after 9:00 PM and road construction often begins about that time as well. At least now we can go to Miami for an evening concert or sporting event without fighting rush hour traffic knowing that there is a way home to Fort Lauderdale by train.

Per a reliable source they have started laying fibre wire north of West Palm Beach in preparation for the new signals and interlockings which will be used when Brightline starts operation north of WPB to Orlando. This is the first big step.

Allow me to add that the Metro Mover goes directly to Arsht Center. Government Center to there is about 10 minutes (first hand knowledge).

Conversely, it's not that long a walk (0.7mi) from Brightline to Kravis in West Palm.
