Does anyone know if the PRR ran a thru sleeper from Pittsburgh to Springfield, MA, in conjunction with the New Haven RR in the early 1950's? If so what train(s) would it have been on and what equipment was used? We've been having some discussions here in MA and some people have vague recollections but few details. Any assistance would be appreciated.

According to the March, 1954 Official Guide, the Pittsburgh-Springfield sleeper was an 8 Section/Lounge except Saturdays. The eastbound was in #46, The New Englander through from Pittsburgh to New York. #46 also had coaches to New York and a diner from Pittsburgh to Harrisburg. At New York, the sleepers were coupled into #186, The Quaker, which originated in Philadelphia and ran through to Boston. At New Haven the Pittsburgh sleeper was carried on New Haven #412 along with two sleepers from Washington which came into New Haven on the Washington-Boston Federal. The return trip out of Springfield was on New Haven Train #85 to New Haven, thence in New Haven #189 The William Penn to New York and the PRR's Pittsburgher to Pittsburgh.
